Looking for something on the Internet ? Don’t know where to look for ? ….

Internet is a real mine of information, these are various and come from everybody and everywhere around the world (Internet users, government, organizations,….). For that reason, information collected on the Internet obviously need to be checked before been used.

 When you are looking for information on the Internet, you can use : research motors (Google, Yahoo,…) , see on the on-line dictionaries and encyclopedias but you can also refer on collaborative websites (Wikipedia), forums, blogs or (often forgotten) the help section available on most of websites, and so on.  

Research motors might help you to find the different websites, blogs, forums, existing on your specific subject if you aren’t aware of them.

Collaborative websites are the result of the work, the knowledge of dozens, hundreds, even sometimes millions of Internet users. They are made up with a page or collection of Web pages (wiki) designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a markup language. It’s used in business to provide Intranets and Knowledge Management systems.

Maybe you are not aware of it but you too can bring what you want (or almost) on your favorite websites. This is the User Generated Content (UGC), in other words all kind of media contents produced by Internet users and available publicly.  The term is used for a lot of applications and all digital media technologies ; UGC can constitute only a portion of website and been partially or totally monitored by website administrators.

Practical applications: Amazon (you can give your opinion about a product, let a picture of a product or even sell your second-hand product on the website)

The idea is to submit a purpose, normally treated by an employee or a contractor, to a large group of people in the form of an open call, for analysis, development, systematization or whatever… that what’s called : crowdsources.

Practical applications : you’ll find below some articles about crowdsources used by big companies, especially for innovation :

Dell  (creation of “IdeaStorm” : customer feedback site)

“What’s that strange word ? What does it mean ?

This strange word or rather sigl (Really Single Syndication) refers to a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works in a standardized format. Web feeds will let you syndicate content of your website ( or blog) quickly and automatically, and RSS and XML file format will been able to be viewed by many different programm.

Practical applications :  You will find below links of some websites which use RSS, you can use it yourself by clicking on the logo and follow instructions.
